I got up too late to practice this morning, and then in the afternoon I doodled around and doodled around and doodled around. What was I thinking? Finally, at 3:45, I went to the mat and had a great practice of mostly standing poses for an hour. Whew! Close call!

Stretchy stuff
I commented on this in passing the other day, and now I've been thinking a lot about how much we don't stretch in everyday life. Once my teacher Margaret said "It's yoga. Exaggerate!" That's exactly right. We never do that. I might reach for something on the top shelf, only for a moment, and never… Continue reading Stretchy stuff
Get busy!
I have spent all day doodling around. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays I don't have time to do yoga between 6 am walking and 9 am water therapy class. I would have time if I didn't want to eat breakfast, that is. And I would have time if I were willing to get up… Continue reading Get busy!
What is yoga for?
Knowing your body Stretching your body farther. In class the other day we observed that in normal life you never step 4 1/2 feet apart. Once in a while you have to reach up high, but not often. Knowing your breath. Connecting your breath with the world's breath. Going inward. I'm strangely reluctant to talk… Continue reading What is yoga for?
Practicing with friends
Priscilla and Dana just left after practicing with me for about an hour and half. It's so interesting to practice with friends - qualitatively different from solitary practice and from class. When I practice alone, I usually work out more or less what sequence I want to do, and edit it as I go along.… Continue reading Practicing with friends
YoMo days 7, 8, and 9
Ooh, I've just got to keep up! On Wednesday I didn't practice in the morning, but I went to Ageless. The class was excellent. A brand new student was in the class, and as a result Kim helped her quite a bit, leaving us in very long holds. I try hard not to come out… Continue reading YoMo days 7, 8, and 9
YoMo day 5 and day 6
Hehehe. I guess I'm a little behind on my posting every day. I'm not behind on yoga though, goody. On day 5, I tore off to Kansas City in the morning and was there all day. When I got home I had numerous things to do, so I just wedged in a 15 minute… Continue reading YoMo day 5 and day 6
YoMo day 4: What was I thinking?
I'm going to have to write a post about obstacles to home practice at some point. I encountered several today - baking bread, taking down the Christmas tree, checking email, and so forth. So my practice time was abbreviated, which revealed a flaw in my stated YoMo intentions. It's no big deal to do one… Continue reading YoMo day 4: What was I thinking?
YoMo day three: Honoring my intentions
So far so good on practicing Upavistha Konasana (wide angle) and Supta Virasana (reclining hero) every day. Well, yeah, it's only the third day, but still, I'm happy about it. This morning's practice was more energetic than I've been doing recently. I can finally do some sort of Adho Mukha Svanasana (down dog) version regularly,… Continue reading YoMo day three: Honoring my intentions
YoMo day two: Restoring with my friends
I didn't get up early to practice. Instead, several friends came over in the early afternoon, and we did a restorative practice together. We held all poses for a long time. The ten-minute Savasana (corpse) was excellent. The length of my Savasana makes a difference in how I feel after any practice, i.e., not just… Continue reading YoMo day two: Restoring with my friends
