I see it's been two weeks since my last post. It hasn't been that long since my last practice, but close. Out-of-town company, travel, laziness, soreness, between sessions at the Yoga Center. No good reasons, so let's just see how I do tomorrow. I have a couple of topics to write about, but I'm not… Continue reading excuses, excuses

Miscellany
I love hanging upside down. I'm very crackly right now, and it's nice to feel my back stretching and crackling out. I am amazed at how quickly I drop into a feeling of peace. A pair of washcloths under my hands make warm soft pads on the concrete floor in reclining poses like Supta Baddha… Continue reading Miscellany
Yoga books
I seem to have amassed a rather large yoga library, not exactly on purpose. Most of my books are downstairs in the room where I practice, but I have a little pile beside the bed. At any given time I am reading a novel, something on web development, a New Yorker (because my father-in-law gives… Continue reading Yoga books
No yoga yesterday, definitely today!!!
I have no good reason why I didn't practice yesterday. I have to let that just float past instead of berating myself. Same with the doodling around I did all morning instead of going downstairs to the mat. This afternoon I will practice. I just ate lunch, so I can't do it yet. But I… Continue reading No yoga yesterday, definitely today!!!
Lying around vs. restorative yoga
Sometimes I think there's a fine line between lying around (feeling sorry for yourself) and restorative yoga. But here are the differences: Intention - The idea behind restorative yoga is to restore your energy. Thus, it's intentional. Lying around can occur just because you're too wiped out to get up. And for me, I have… Continue reading Lying around vs. restorative yoga
What’s important
I've known for a long time that these things are important. Somehow reminders keep coming around. Fascia - the big bag of connective tissue our physical bodies are in. I encountered Paul Grilley's work first in an article in Yoga Journal where he talked about the wide range of differences from one body to another.… Continue reading What’s important
This morning
No walking this morning. I got up at 6:30 and did a sequence from Yoga as Medicine, by Timothy McCall, from the fibromyalgia section. It was very gentle and felt great. Then I did a tiny bit of pranayama. It's hard not to be impatient with my body. I'm doing the best I can.
Extensions, please
Yesterday I thought I'd buffalo my way through doing more than I have been in my practice. I momentarily lost my mind and forgot that my joints are completely pushed apart by fluid and that the soft tissues holding them together are not in the right places. So I almost defiantly started off with Trikonasana… Continue reading Extensions, please
Today’s class
I went to my Ageless yoga class today. It was just plain great. We did mostly supported poses - rope dog, rope uttanasana, supported wide-angle forward bend, supported shoulderstand, but we worked hard in them. The trajectory of the sequence went from easy to hard to relaxed. We also did one of my faves, Dwi… Continue reading Today’s class
Breathing
This morning on my walk, I was whining to my walking partner (14 years!) about having done nothing at all yesterday except lie around and feel bad. Then I mentioned that I had done yoga, but it was all restorative. She laughed. "Get that 'but' out of there!" she said. "You DID do something yesterday. … Continue reading Breathing
