general blather, poses

Alignment illumination!

This is the end of our second full day at the beach.  I got up early and practiced for an hour and a half.  It’s hard practicing on carpet, but the kitchen floor, the only hard floor, is slightly sticky from humidity, and not quite big enough.

Around noon we went out for a swim.  After jumping around in the water for a while, I stood on shore with the waves coming up over my feet and legs, watching my husband swim and enjoying the sun.

The shoreline slopes down to the waves quite a bit, so I decided to do a couple of standing poses with my front foot going up the slope.  It was a little tricky, because the wave action pulled sand out from under my back foot, and because watching the movement of the waves made my balance a little cockeyed.  The hamstring stretch felt good.

I was in Trikonasana (triangle), looking down at my front foot, when I realized the sun was directly overhead, and my body was acting as a giant sundial.  I could see my alignment perfectly in my shadow beneath me! It looked pretty good, but I made a couple of slight adjustments based on what I saw and felt the improvement.  It was almost like standing on a mirror.

The feedback was fascinating.  I’m going to do it again tomorrow.
