I signed up for World Yoga Practice Month (WoYoPracMo), which is now, January 2008. You commit to practicing every single day for a month. (It’s related to National Novel Writing Month – NaNoWriMo – and National Blog Posting Month – NaBloPoMo.) If you don’t make it, nobody knows but you. But the commitment, even to a group of unknown people, is still pretty powerful. Of course it helps that I’ve blabbed around to everyone I know about it, which is also keeping me honest.
I had one day of a migraine when I did not practice at all, and have had a few completely half-baked practices, but on the whole I’ve been pretty good. I seem to do best when it’s part of a normal routine. I have been walking every weekday morning for 14 or so years with a friend, and so I try to practice before walking. It means getting up at 5 am. We walk at 6:00. I wish I could get up earlier, but it seems to be physically impossible.
Strangely, on the weekends, when I have more time, I find it difficult to get in good practice time.
